Check Your Eligibility

To become a medical marijuana patient in Massachusetts, you must be a MA resident (with proof of residency) and have a qualifying medical condition. Aiding and calming your body’s ailments can come in many forms and actions. Cannabis is known to have positive effects on a range of conditions and needs.

According to The Act For The Humanitarian Medical Use Of Marijuana, qualifying medical conditions include:

  • Cancer
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Hepatitis C
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/Lou Gehrig’s disease
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Other debilitating conditions as determined in writing by a Qualifying Patient’s healthcare provider

Visit Your Doctor

Next, you will need to be certified by a qualified healthcare provider. Make a doctor’s appointment and ask whether the Medical Use of Marijuana Program would be helpful for you. If your provider believes it will, then they will certify you and give you a PIN number.

Register

Before you can become a medical marijuana patient in Massachusetts, you need to register online in the Medical Use of Marijuana Program Online System. To do so, you must gather:

  • Your PIN number, given to you by your doctor
  • Current, acceptable form of identification (ID)
  • Current, accepted photograph of yourself

It is very important to remember that you must always carry your Program ID Card when you are in possession of medical marijuana.
