Connecticut law allows adults 21 and older to possess and use cannabis in limited amounts. Medical patients may also access cannabis products with proper certification. It is important to understand and follow all state regulations, including:
- Adults 21+ may possess up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis on their person and 5 ounces in a locked container at home or in their vehicle.
Medical Marijuana Possession Limits in Connecticut
- Monthly Allotment: Registered medical marijuana patients may purchase and possess up to 5.0 ounces of cannabis per month. CT.gov
- On-Person Possession: Medical patients are allowed to carry up to 5 ounces of cannabis on their person, which is higher than the 1.5-ounce limit for adult-use consumers. CT.gov
- Home Storage: Both medical and adult-use consumers may store up to 5 ounces of cannabis in a locked container at home or in a locked glovebox or trunk of a vehicle. CT.gov
- Home Cultivation: Registered medical marijuana patients aged 18 and older are permitted to cultivate up to three mature and three immature cannabis plants at their primary residence, with a maximum of 12 plants per household. CT.gov
- Only licensed cannabis establishments can legally sell cannabis products in Connecticut.
- Public consumption of cannabis is restricted. Use is allowed on private property with the owner’s consent.
- Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal and subject to penalties.
- Cannabis use remains illegal under federal law, even in states where it is legalized.

- Edibles: Cannabis-infused food and beverages; effects may take 30 minutes to 2 hours to begin.
- Tinctures and Oils: Liquid cannabis extracts taken orally; quicker onset than edibles.
- Topicals: Cannabis-infused lotions or balms applied to the skin; typically non-psychoactive.
- Capsules and Pills: Ingestible forms for measured dosing.
